RESET: Rhythms of the City

It sometimes feels we are living in unprecedented times. Yet from the Taíno and Mexica, to the Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc, to the Indigenous peoples of Central and West Africa and their descendants in the Americas, to the Irish and other immigrants and refugees, our ancestors lived through immense turmoil. In this gathering, we invoke their memory, dreams, and resilience and harness the power of art to foster unity across difference. We gather at Boston City Hall Plaza, on the ancestral land of the Massachusett Tribe, to RESET and reconnect. We pause to recall how Boston was made, to feel our rhythms running through the city, and to imagine anew our shared future.

Why RESET? It sometimes feels like we are living in unprecedented times. But in this gathering, we recall our ancestors who survived and persisted through tremendous difficulty and turmoil–from the Taíno and Mexica, to the Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc, the Indigenous peoples of Central and West Africa and their descendants in the Americas, the Irish and other immigrants and refugees who are intimately tied to this city. We invoke the memory, dreams, and resilience of ancestors through this musical celebration performed by their descendants as a living tribute to heritage and the power of art to foster unity across difference. We RESET to reconnect–to pause from the daily hustle and bustle to join together–on unceded Massachusett land–to recall how Boston was made, to feel our rhythms running through it, and to imagine anew our shared future. On October 19: RESET, together.
